By the end of the lesson, students will have a basic understanding of the history and use of patches that represent human spaceflight missions, recognize common design elements, be able to identify the Space Shuttle mission related to an STS mission patch they are holding and understand the meaning of elements and symbols used in the design. In addition, they will be able to initiate basic research to answer essential questions.
